  • Asymmetry.
  • Ear size.
  • Cosmetic defects of the earlobe.
Contraindications to otoplasty
  • Diabetes.
  • Hemophilia.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Chronic and acute infectious diseases.
  • Malignant neoplasms.

The main indication for otoplasty is dissatisfaction with one’s own reflection in the mirror.

Correction of protruding ears

Most often, correction of protruding ears is performed under local anesthesia. Key stages:

  1. Markings are applied.

  2. An anesthetic solution is injected.

  3. The specialist makes a skin incision and uses a special scalpel to model the ear cartilage.

  4. The cartilage is sutured in the desired position.

  5. The postoperative wound is sutured with a non-absorbable thread and a bandage.

The patient does not need to stay in the hospital for a long time, and the rehabilitation period passes almost unnoticed. After the stitches are removed, which usually happens after 7 days, you need to wear an elastic bandage at night for another 21 days to avoid injury.

Correction of ear deformities

All ear deformations are divided into congenital and acquired. Birth defects include:

  • Disproportional enlargement of the ears (macrotia).
  • Prominent ears.
  • “Curled” ears.
  • Deformation of the earlobe.
  • Curl deformities.
  • Underdevelopment (microtia)

Acquired ear deformations are not inferior in frequency to congenital ones. They are a consequence of injuries and inflammatory processes.

Correction stages:

  1. Before the operation, photographs are taken in different projections.

  2. Formation of a subcutaneous pocket and placement of a cartilage frame into it.

  3. Detachment of the engrafted frame along with the skin and formation of the auricle.

In most surgeries, the incision is made behind the ear and becomes invisible over time. The type of anesthesia is selected individually.

Lobe correction

Earlobe suturing is performed by a surgeon on an outpatient basis and under local anesthesia. The duration of plastic surgery does not exceed 60 minutes and depends on the complexity of the clinical case.

The surgeon makes a small incision and carefully excises tissue along the inner perimeter of the hole. The cut edges are sewn together with a cosmetic suture. To protect against irritation and rubbing, it is fixed with a strip of sterile medical plaster or bandage.

Rehabilitation after otoplasty

On average, the healing process lasts about a month. On the first day after surgery, the patient may experience discomfort. During the first week, regular dressing changes are necessary. By the end of 2 weeks, the sutures are tightened, and by the end of the first month, final healing occurs.

Basic recommendations:

  • Wash your hair only with baby shampoo.
  • Do not smoke, do not drink alcohol.
  • Avoid physical activity.
  • Take medications prescribed by your doctor.
  • Stick to a diet.
  • Avoid sunlight and solarium.
  • Sleep on your back.
  • Avoid physical impact.
  • Use a special bandage.
